The association
The Italian Association of Military Psychology (AIPM) is a social promotion association born from an idea matured over time, through the comparison, commitment and determination of a group of psychologists, civil and military, many of whom also psychotherapists, who have been working for years in the university and defense sectors, sharing, among others, the values of respect for oneself and for others, solidarity, a sense of duty and loyalty to institutions, as well as a passion for Psychology applied to the military world.
The purpose of the Association is to promote the development of Military Psychology in our country and create services for the well-being of those who wear a uniform (eg. Armed Forces, Police Forces, Firefighters, etc.), for their family members and the organizational contexts in which they operate, thus also contributing to the growth of psychological science.
Military Psychology in Italy boasts a long and prestigious tradition, coeval with that of other Western countries, especially the United States of America. In particular, it was born in 1918, thanks to the intense work of study and research conducted by the illustrious Father Agostino Gemelli, Franciscan, physician and psychologist.
In recent decades, following important geopolitical, social and technological changes, Military Psychology has promoted and implemented a series of interventions in various institutional areas: personnel selection, organizational, educational, training, operational, emergency and clinical recovery processes. In particular, psychological support services were organized for families, especially during serious events, for the prevention of stress and psychological support for military personnel employed in emergencies, such as in the case of natural disasters or in foreign missions, professional orientation, prevention of psychological distress and self-harm phenomena. These services were carried out in close collaboration with the university world and important national and international organizations in the sector.
Being part of our Association, therefore, means sharing our values, accessing our services, knowing and making use of the substantial doctrinal corpus produced and contributing, with one's commitment, to its professional, human and scientific growth.
